Read the given extracts and answer the questions that follow:
1 felt so very dependent and helpless. We are well-off, but what use is money when I cannot be independent?
(a) Who is ‘I’ in these lines?
(b) Why did she feel very dependent and helpless?
(c) We are ‘well-off’. What does the phrase ‘well-off’ mean here?

(a) ‘I’ stands for the narrator’s grandmother.
(b) She was illiterate so she felt herself dependent and helpless.
(c) Prosperous.
