(a) (i) Properties: Physical state

Ethanol: It is liquid with specific smell.

Ethanoic acid: It is also liquid with vinegar like smell.

(ii) Properties: Taste

Ethanol: It has burning taste.

Ethanoic acid: It has sour taste.

(iii) Properties: NaHCO3 test

Ethanol: It does not react.

Ethanoic acid: It gives brisk effervescence due to CO2.

(iv) Properties: Ester test

Ethanol: Add acetic acid and conc. H2SO4, Pleasant fruity smelling compound, ester is formed.

Ethanoic acid: Add ethyl alcohol and conc. H2SO4, pleasant fruity smelling compound, ester is formed.

(b) CH3CH2OH + conc. H2SO4 + 443K → CH2 = CH2 + H2O
