(a) A homologous series is a group of organic compounds having similar structures and similar chemical properties in which that successive compounds differ by CH2 group.

Ethyl alcohol: C2H5OH

\(H-\overset{H}{\overset{|}{\underset{H}{\underset{|}{C}}}}-\overset{H}{\overset{|}{\underset{H}{\underset{|}{C}}}}-OH\)

(b) C3H7OH

(c) Coal and petroleum
