The boat has left a stormy land,
A stormy sea before her,
When, O! too strong for human hand,
The tempest gathered o’er her.

The boat has left the stormy land. Now a stormy sea is before her. The storm which is too stronger to be controlled by human hands, has gathered over her.

(a) What had the boat left and what was it going to face after it?

(b) Who was the woman and why was she with the Scottish chieftain?

(c) Describe the fury of the storm.

(b) The woman was Lord Ullin’s daughter. She had eloped with the Scottish chieftain and married him.
