It is not for your silver bright,
But for your winsome lady:
(a) Who is ‘the hardy Highland wight’?
(b) What promise does he make?

(a) ‘The hardy Highland Wight’ is the boatman.
(b) He promises that he will ferry the Chieftain and his beloved, Lord Ullin’s daughter.
(c) These lines reveal that the ‘Highland Wight’ is a man of integrity. He is not after money.
