“And by my word! the bonny bird
In danger shall not tarry;
So, though the waves are raging white,
I’ll row you o’er the ferry.”
Paraphrase: The boatman takes an oath that the bride will not live in danger for a long time. Though the waves are turning foamy white with fury, he promises to row them over the ferry.
