In a displacement reaction, one element takes the place of another in a compound.
For example,
Fe(s) + CuSO4(aq) ➝ FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)
In a double displacement reaction, one component each of both the reactants get exchanged to form the products.
For example,
HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) ➝ NaCl(aq) + H2O(l)
