What made the poet proclaim Ernest was the Stone Face?

The poet felt that Ernest’s own life and character were nobler kind of poetry than he had ever written. He could not help declaring that Ernest himself was the Stone Face as he had seen white clouds of mist around the Stone Face and white hair on Ernest’s head.
