Longitudinal wave
1. It needs medium for propagation.
2. Particles of the medium move in a direction parallel to the direction of propagation of the disturbance.
Example, sound wave.
Transverse wave
1. It may or may not need medium for propagation.
2. Particle of the medium move in perpendicular direction of propagation of the disturbance.
Example, light wave, seismic wave
