Speed of sound in salt water = 1531 m s-1 Time taken by sonar pulse to return = 1.02 sec Distance travelled 2 × d = speed × time
2 x d = 1531 x 1.02
∴ \( d = \frac{1531 \times 1.02}{2}\)
d = 781 m
