The industries release pollutants like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. These gases react with the water vapour present in the atmosphere to form sulphuric acid and nitric acid. These come down with the rain, making the rain acidic. Acid rain is harmful to us because it destroys buildings and damages crops and trees.
Examples:
- affects the monuments like Taj Mahal.
- spoils the growth of plants.
- causes irritation of eyes in human beings.
