The refractive index of water is 1.33 and the speed of light in air is 3 x 108 ms-1. Calculate the speed of light in water.

Since, refractive index = n = Speed of light in vacuum/Speed of light in medium
= c/v
we get, v = c/n = 3 x 108/1.33 x 3
= 2.25 x 108 ms-1
