The equilibrium constant for the reaction W + X ⇌ Y + Z is 9. If one mole of each of w and x are mixed and there is no change in volume, the number of moles of y formed is

(a) 0.10

(b) 0.50

(c) 0.75

(d) 0.54

(c) 0.75

Explanation:

            W + X ⇌ Y + Z

Initial    1    1     0     0

At eqn. 1 -α  1-α  α   α

Keq = 9

= \(\frac{\alpha^2}{(1 - \alpha)^2}\)

∴ α = 0.75

Moles of Y = 0.75
