Primary productivity
(i) It is the amount of organic matter generated by producers per unit area over a specific span of time.
(ii) It is comparatively quite high.
(iii) It is due to synthesis of fresh organic matter from inorganic raw material.
Secondary productivity
(i) It is the rate of generating organic matter by consumers over a span of time.
(ii) It is comparatively small.
(iii) It is due to synthesis of organic matter from organic matter.
