Why is the use of iodised salt advisable?

Iodine is an important constituent required by the body to synthesise thyroxin hormone. The deficiency of iodine leads to a disease called ‘goitre’. In this disease, the neck region swells up. Hence, it is advisable to consume iodised salt to prevent chances of goitre.
