(a) Burning of magnesium ribbon in a dazzling flame of air (that is, oxygen) is an example of oxidation reaction.

The chemical reaction is given below:

2Mg(s) + O2(g) → 2MgO(s)

(b) Oxidation reactions are exothermic.
For example, the burning of hydrogen is an oxidation process in which hydrogen combines with oxygen to form water.
2H2(g) + O2(g) → 2H2O(l)
(c) Oxidation-reduction reaction or redox reaction is defined as the reaction in which oxidation and reduction reactions occur simultaneously. The oxidation reaction is defined as the reaction in which a substance loses its electrons. The oxidation state of the substance increases. A reduction reaction is defined as the reaction in which a substance gains electrons. The oxidation state of the substance gets reduced.
CuO + H2 + Heat → Cu + H2O
In this reaction, copper oxide is being reduced to copper whereas hydrogen is being oxidised to water.
