Distinguish between the following pairs in one or two sentences for each

(a) blood and lymph.

(b) tendon and ligament

(a) Blood and Lymph:

Blood

1. It is red in colour.

2. RBCs are present.

3. Blood transports nutrients, hormones and vitamins to the tissues and transports excretory products from the tissues to the liver and kidney.

Lymph

1. It is colourless.

2. RBCs are absent.

3. Lymph transports the nutrients (oxygen, glucose) that may have been filtered out of the blood capillaries back into the heart to be recirculated in the body.

(b) Tendon and Ligament:

Tendon

  • It is inelastic.
  • It connects muscles to bones.
  • It is made up of white fibres.

Ligament

  • It is elastic.
  • It connects two bones.
  • It is made up of white and yellow fibres.
