The energy of electron in first energy level is -21.79 x 10-12 erg per atom. The energy of electron in second energy level is :
(a) -54.47 x 10-12 erg atom-1
(b) -5.447 x 10-12 erg atom-1
(c) -0.5447 x 10-12 erg atom-1
(d) -0.05447 x 10-12 erg atom-1

(b) -5.447 x 10-12 erg atom-1
Explanation:
For a particular element,
En = 13.6Z2/n2 erg atom-1
∴ En ∝ 1/n2
∴ E1 /E2 = (n22)/(n1)2
or E2 = (1)2 x (-21.79 x 10-12)/(2)2
= -5.447 x 10-12 erg atom-1
