Correct answer: (b) -5.447 x 10-12 erg atom-1
Explanation:
If we assume the atom to be hydrogen like, energy of nth energy level
En = -\(\frac{E_1}{n^2}\)
where E1 is energy of first energy level
E2 = -\(\frac{E_1}{2^2}\)
= - \(\frac{E_1}{4}\)
= -\(\frac{-21.79 \times 10^{-12}}{4}\)
= -5.447 x 10-12 erg atom-1
