A 3 : 2 molar mixture of N2 and CO is present in a vessel at 500 bar pressure. Due to hole in the vessel, the gas mixture leaks out. The composition of mixture effusing out initially is

(a) nN2 : nCO :: 1 : 2

(b) nN2 : nCO :: 6 : 1

(c) nCO: nN2 :: 1 : 2

(d) nCO : nN2 :: 2 : 3

Correct answer: (d) nCO : nN2 :: 2 : 3

Explanation:

Molar ratio of N2 and CO is 3 : 2, i.e., 300 bar and 200 bar, respectively.

\(\frac{^nN_2}{n_{CO}}\) = \(\sqrt{\frac{m_{CO}}{mN_2}}\) x \(\frac{P_{N_2}}{P_{CO}}\)

\(\frac{300}{200}\) = \(\frac{3}{2}\)
