Why are cleistogamous flowers invariably autogamous?

Cleistogamous flowers are the bisexual flowers which do not open at all even at maturity and their stamens and stigma are never exposed for xenogamy or geitonogamy; the anthers and stigma lie close to each other and self pollination is effected easily.
