Explanation:

It has been demonstrated that flowering in plant is more of a response to the dark period than to the light period. In short day plants, the plants can flower in complete darkness if supplied with exogenous nutrients. Flowering is prevented in them if dark period below the critical level is interrupted by a flash of light. Interruption of light by dark inhibits flowering under normal photoperiods.
