The table below shows the differences between them:
Diapause:
(i) It is the period of suspended development or growth of an organism during stress conditions.
(ii) It occurs both in summer and winter.
(iii) It is shown by zooplanktons and larvae of some insects.
Hibernation:
(i) It is a state of inactivation to escape cold conditions.
(ii) It occurs only in winter, also known as winter sleep.
(iii) It is common in ectothermal animals, e.g., frog.
