Distinguish between Hibernation and Aestivation.

Hibernation:

(i) It is winter sleep in which animal passes the winter period in dormant condition.

(ii) The animal rests in a warm place.

(iii) It is of longer duration and lasts for the whole duration of winter.

Aestivation:

(i) It is summer sleep, to escape summer related problems like heat and desiccation.

(ii) Animal rests in a cool/shady and moist place.

(iii) It lasts for hot dry day time as nights are cooler.
