(a) SO2 is acidic in nature. When dissolved in water, it produces sulphurous acid.

SO2(g) + H2O(s) → H2SO3(aq)

Sulphurdioxide water   Sulphurous acid

(b) Na2O is basic in nature. When dissolved in water, it forms an alkali called sodium hydroxide.

Na2O(s) + H2O(s) → 2NaOH(aq)

Sodium oxide water   sodium hydroxide
