An object is placed 15 cm from (a) a converging mirror, and (b) a diverging mirror, of radius of curvature 20 cm. Calculate the image position and magnification in each case.

An object is placed 15 cm from (a) a converging mirror, and (b) a diverging mirror, of radius of curvature 20 cm. Calculate the image position and magnification in each case.

(b) f = -20 cm, u = -10 cm, v = ?

We know that

\(\frac{1}{v}\) + \(\frac{1}{u}\) = \(\frac{1}{f}\)

\(\frac{1}{v}\) + \(\frac{1}{-10}\) = \(\frac{1}{-20}\)

\(\frac{1}{v}\) = - \(\frac{1}{20}\) + \(\frac{1}{10}\)

= \(\frac{1}{20}\)

∴ v = 20 cm

(c) Characteristics of image formed

(i) Image is virtual.

(ii) Image is erect.
