Glucose is oxidised either aerobically, i.e. in the presence of oxygen or anaerobically, i.e. in the absence of oxygen to provide energy in various living organisms. In organisms like yeast, glucose is oxidised anaerobically to give ethanol, carbon dioxide and energy. Aerobically, glucose is oxidised to give carbon dioxide, water and energy.
