The purity of H2O2 in a given sample is 85%. Calculate the weight of impure sample of H2O2 which requires 10 mL of M/5 KMnO4 solution in titration in acidic medium

(a) 2 g

(b) 0.2 g

(c) 0.17 g

(d) 0.15 g

Correct answer: (b) 0.2 g

Explanation:

mEq of KMnO4- ≡ mEq of H2O2

10 x \(\frac{M}{5}\)x 5 ≡ mEq of H2O2

10 mEq ≡ mEq of H2O2

Weight of H2O2 = 10 x \(10^{-3} \times\frac{34}{2}\) x 0.17

= 0.2 g

Weight of impure H2O2

= \(\frac{100}{85}\)x 0.17 = 0.2 g
