Correct answer: (a) 1 x 10-3
Explanation:
A- + H2O ⇌ HA + OH-
(Initial) 0.001M 0 0
(At. eq.) (0.001-R) (0.001xh) (0.001xh)
Kh = \(\frac{(0.001 \times h)(0.001 \times h)}{(0.001-h)}\)
or, Kh = 0.001 x h2 (as, 0.001 - h = 0.001)
10-9 = 0.001 x h2
Kh = \(\frac{K_w}{K_a}\) = \(\frac{10^{-14}}{10^{-5}}\) = 10-9
h2 = 10-6 ; ∴ h = 10-3
