For a heater rated at 4 kW and 220 V, calculate :

(b) the resistance of the heater,

(c) the energy consumed in 2 hours, and

(d) the cost if 1 kWh is priced at Rs 60.

Given

P = 4 km, V = 220 v

(a) I = ?

Power = VI = 250 x I

4000 = 250 I

I = 16 amp

(b) R = ?

P = I2R

P = 162 x R

R = \(\frac{4000}{16^2}\)

R = 15.25 ohm

(c) Energy consumed in two hour = P x t

= 4 x 2

= 8kw-hr

(d) If 1 kwh = Rs 4.6

total cost = 8 x 4.6

= Rs 36.8
