The united protoplasmic mass of two
gametes is called zygote or zygospore. Prior to germination, the diploid zygospore nucleus undergoes meiosis and forms four nuclei. Three of the four nuclei degenerate since they are smaller in size. The last cell is bigger and grows using the reserve food substances.
