(a) 12 cells of antheridium + 1 prothallial cell
Explanation:
The structure and development of male gametophyte was described by Slagg (1932). The 13 celled male gametophyte has 12 antheridial cells and one prothallial cell as a result of segmentation. This is to increase the number of biflagellate antherozoids.
