A diatomic molecule X2 has a body-centred cubic (bcc) structure with a cell edge of 300 pm. The density of the molecule is 6.17 g cm–3. The number of molecules present in 200 g of X2 is:

(1) 4NA

(2) 2NA

(3) 40NA

(4) 8NA

(1) 4NA

Explanation:

For BCC Z = 2

d = Z x M/NA x Volume

6.17 = 2 x M/6.02 x 1023 x [3 x 10-8]3

6.17 = 2 x M/6.02 x 2.7

M = 50

No. of mole = 200/50 = 4

No. of molecule = 4NA
