Assertion: Molecular nitrogen is less reactive than molecular oxygen.

Reason: The bond length of N2 is shorter than that of oxygen.

(a) If both Assertion and Reason are correct and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.

(b) If both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not a correct explanation of the Assertion.

(c) If the Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.

(d) If both the Assertion and Reason are incorrect.

(a) If both Assertion and Reason are correct and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion.

Explanation:

Nitrogen molecule has triple bond, whereas oxygen has double bond. N-N Bond length of N2 is shorter. Hence, it is difficult to break the triple bond of N2. Hence N2 is less reactive. Both A and R are true.
