(a) Name X and Y

(b) Write the chemical equation of the reaction of metal X with (i) hydrochloric acid, and (ii) sodium hydroxide solution.

(a) X is zinc metal; Gas Y is hydrogen gas.

(b) Zn(s) + 2HCl → XnCl2 + H2(g)

zinc  Hydrochloric acid   Zinc chloride  Hydrogen

(ii) 2NaOH(aq) + Zn(s) + Heat → Na2ZnO2(aq) + H2(g)

Sodium Hydroxide Zinc      Sodium Zincate   Hydrogen
